I just came across you're book Growing Up Digital, like probably most of
us, as it was reviewed by Katz in Hotwired. I'm reading the commentary on
Amazon with a bit mixed feelings. I'm sad that I didn't know about it
before but happy that it exists - even though I'm in a little bit of
trouble because of it.
At the moment I'm working on http://an.org/inet98/ which I'm supposed to
present at the ISOC Inet'98 conference in Geneva next summer. The topic
is, more or less, my networked growing up. So, now that your book is here,
what am I supposed to tell them that they already don't know?
The deadline is 16th, all work will be shared on the site, although now
there's not much else than the abstract which I'd hope you to check at
<URL:http://www.an.org/inet98/abstract.txt>. It's written in October and
didn't know about your work then.
Perhaps .. since I'm Finnish, even though based in Amsterdam at the
moment, I could combine the other abstracts I wrote about Finland
<URL:http://www.netppl.fi/~antont/inet98/finland.abstract> and life
<URL:http://www.cs.vu.nl/~antont/inet98/augnetcom.abstract> ("Augmented
Network Communities") to get an unique view?
Is your perspective as american as the reviews seem to tell?
I don't have the book (yet).
The ppl on cc are the ones who select the papers for the conference.
Our earlier discussion is (hidden so far) at
<URL:http://an.org/inet/.discussion/> and if it's ok with you I'll add
ours there too for the collaborators to see.
Looking forward to your reaction, even a quick&dirty one would be
delightful.
