Yes!

mmh. how come? i think the only problem is that they being so they're too
obvious to be criticized. too easy. boring. like Shell or McDonalds or
Micro$oft. if it's not radicalized and made in a weird way, as we could.
of course there is:

first of all: i think we should provide activists with the possiblity to
enjoy reliable anonymity. no connections. it is possible, for example by
having a website where everyone can submit information (or a postal box
for VHS videos etc. as an-other route) anonymously. no logfiles kept. or
is this unwise?
it doesn't, of course, free us/you from responsibility and your question
remains valid. the approach i'd like to have is constructive criticism,
ie. making fun of Nokia so that even they think they benefitted from it ..
even sponsoring events etc.
like for the Nokia Constructive Criticism (NCC as in NCC RIPE Amsterdam,
Network Coordination Center of European Internet Protocol Registry (french
acronym) and in NCC Enterprise in Star Trek, btw ;) contest the prize
should be given by Nokia. A GSM Base Station might be a funny one, at
least I'd love to have one of my own ;)
that was the ideal (being constructive) brought up by Terhi in one of the
early talks and I think it could be a goal. perhaps impossible, but still.
otherwise .. well i know some good lawyers and i guess you do too. they
should consult us in the preparations.

In the Oulu / Ostro-Botnia (vai onko tuo pohjanmaa vai joku ihan muu?-)
Information Society Strategy Process this spring we discussed this with
some architects. I was partly responsible for the Living Environment
subprocess of the whole strategy work, related to culture and arts but
also in broader sense.
The most visonary idea was that in city planning in the future, different
designs will be /not only/ presented in virtual reality systems, like they
are today (3d models of houses on screens etc.) but *augmented* in the
actualy enviroment using augmented reality (AR) technologies too. That way
people can go to the place and observer the change in the physical realm
before no potential damage is done etc.
There are some (commercial) Augmented Reality systems available already
that might be used in this City & Digimedia/Architecture thing in
Helsinki. As there already is a 3d-model of the city, adapting that
database from VR->AR use shouldn't be too hard. helsinkiarena2000.fi (ie.
Helsinki Telephone Company, another dea^hr friend) might sponsor that.
Risto Linturi there is a (rich) freak and a nice fellow who likes all
tech. advanced virtual community stuff like this. these are the people who
.. i guess from Kari Hintikka's initiative have created the current
VRML-model of Helsinki city center .. that we obviously should (ab)use ;)
One way could be for example, that people on the terassi of Kiasma would
be given wearable computers and transparent LCD eyedisplays (goggles) that
are aware of people's locations and line of sight and draw images of the
3d-database and visualize alternative city views .. for example the
Parliament building with wings or something :)
This tech exists in Finland .. i think oulu.fi and hut.fi have wearable
computers, Nokia has wireless net connections and Sony (their parner)
sells goggles .. VTT has a location&line-of-sight sensor helmet etc. would
be a lot of organizing to get this together but a lot of fun too! i've
tried systems like these sometimes at the VTT in Oulu and it's great :)
Also in Kirjakaapeli, in Lasipalatsi, you can try out partly transparent
LCD goggles (12000mk from Sony), instead of using a monitor display .. and
watch the traffic on Mannerheimintie flow accross your e-mail and irc :)
hm ok now finally back to sleep.
sorry about the messy messages.
